While anyone who suffers acne immediately turns to medication for the cure, it won’t always help what comes after the treatment – scarring.
Luckily, we live in an era of dermatology where every skin condition has a method of treatment that can vastly improve your skin’s look. While micro-needle skin therapy and chemical peels are a solution for some, another method which can vastly improve your skin’s texture and feel is the route of laser resurfacing – a method we were lucky enough to try.
After an intense breakout of acne at the age of 23, we know first-hand that it can be a long and seemingly never-ending process to get the skin back to what it once was. But laser is one such method which can provide a dramatic transformation to the skin’s texture within weeks of your very first session.

Camille Morrison, from the Cadogan Clinic in Chelsea, exclusively spoke to OK! Online about the procedure and exactly what to expect – from how it works, to the amazing results it can give.
“The ICON laser system is used for skin resurfacing at the Cadogan Clinic,” Camille says. “The FDA approved technology is acknowledged as one of the safest lasers available for aesthetic non-surgical treatments.
“As we age, our skin elasticity depletes and unwanted lines and folds start to appear on the surface. Laser skin resurfacing provides a straightforward and effective solution that will restore collagen within the skin. This will then smooth and even out the surface of the skin and making the appearance significantly better.”

While the laser is ideal for acne scarring, it can also address concerns such as age spots, sun damage, wrinkles, stretch marks, rosacea and vascular lesions.
A patch test is required 48 hours before the treatment, in order to eliminate risk of adverse reactions.
The overall procedure isn’t completely pain-free, and feels like a tiny pinch on the skin in an upwards pattern on the face for approximately 10 minutes. But at the Cadogan Clinic, you’re completely at ease in the safe hands of your practitioner – and you soon realise that a tiny bit of pain is completely worth it for the results it gives.

“The treatment works by penetrating laser energy into the skin to remove the very outer layers,” Camille added. “The body’s natural healing process creates new, healthy cells to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in a healthier, smoother, younger-looking appearance.
“A person requiring treatment for acne scarring would require between 4 -8 treatments per course. These will be carried out at intervals of 3-4 weeks (on untanned skin).”
While the skin will be red for a couple of days following the monthly procedure, the results are simply something else. While all skin is different, the laser combined with other treatments such as micro-needling can help rejuvenate your skin to what it once was, before acne ever became an issue. Around two weeks after the first treatment, the skin felt tighter and the deeper ‘pits’ were becoming less and less noticeable – and as the months passed, the results only got better and better.
