The reigning MVP finally gets his own sneaker: the Why Not Zer0.1.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook knows a thing or two about turning heads—and that’s why we love him. Whether it’s his high-flying antics on the court or his swaggy-as-hell personal style, the NBA superstar is hard to miss. And 2017 was a banner year for the 29-year-old: he nabbed his first-ever GQ cover,, wore more insane gameday fits than we can count, released a coffee table book of said outfits, and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. In true Westbrook fashion, he’s starting 2018 with a bang, too, by officially releasing his first-ever on-court signature sneaker: the Jordan Why Not Zer0.1.
Westbrook’s new kicks are futuristic and eye-catching in all the right ways: sleek, slightly geometric, and cutting-edge without looking too out of the ordinary. (You don’t want your game-day kicks to be too bizarre—that’s what your off-court sneakers are for.) The shoe is also jam-packed with the type of technical details and support that the reigning MVP needs to stay at the top of his game. To start, it features a sturdy mesh upper, full-length Zoom Air sole, and a compression-molded foam piece that is specifically engineered to provide maximum bounce on the court. And it’s got a heel cup that looks directly lifted from another ahead-of-its time Jordan 15, a sneaker that happens to be on the cusp of a major comeback in 2018.
When you’re the king of NBA fashion, your signature sneaker has a lot to live up to (Not an exaggeration; fans voted for Westbrook as the league’s most stylish player last year). The Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 lives up to that billing with two initial colorways: “2-Way,” a black-and-white version that perfectly balances “look at me” contrast with simplicity; and “Mirror Image,” a graphic-heavy option that is certain to draw attention with its collage-like look and bright red details. If this new sneaker is going to set the stage for the new year of Westbrook style, then we’ll be watching to see what else he has up his sleeve.
$125, the Why Not Zer0.1 launches Jan. 15 with limited quantities of the “Mirror Image” colorway. The “2-Way” colorway releases globally on Feb. 15.
